REDFIELD - The first Sunday in August saw 46 golfers from all over South Dakota converge on Fisher Grove Country Club for the State KC Golf Tournament. Golfers from Huron, Kimball, Timber Lake, Highmore, Aberdeen, Watertown, Milbank and Mobridge were hosted by Redfield Council #2703 for the event.

The day started with a prayer for the soul of Greg Beebe led by Past State Deputy Paul Lemmer before the golfers hit the links. The weather was absolutely beautiful as they played the first nine holes and grabbed lunch before starting out for the second nine. Following the conclusion of the golfing, there was some social time in the club house before moving out to the picnic shelter where a feast awaited the hungry golfers and friends. The guys and gals enjoyed sirloin steaks hot off the grill with mushrooms and onions, cheesy hash browns, baked beans, salad bar and bars and cake for dessert.

Redfield hosted the first KC State Golf Tournament at Fisher Grove CC back in 1985. The winners of that tournament were Dennis Schmitz and Bob Reecy from Huron (Reecy lives in Mobridge now). Schmitz and his partner Bill Cahill successfully defended their title Denny had won 24 years earlier. They narrowly beat out Hugh Mack and Doug Schaffer, both of Redfield, by one stroke on the final hole. Schmitz and Cahill finished with a 64 to win their third KC State Golf title together and Schmitz's fourth overall.

Everyone that came to the golf course that day had a lot of fun and are hoping that it isn't another 24 years before Redfield hosts another KC State Golf Tournament!

Members of St. Agnes Knights of Columbus council in Vermillion removed 30 truckloads of trees, branches & brush from the church and rectory on a beautiful Saturday morning in July. A dozen men were a part of this effort. Even Father Fischer joined in the effort. The tree trimming helped prepare the grounds for the upcoming parish picnic on August 23.
